Farnley Tower was built in 1870 for a Mr. S. Forstor (a Prominent Local Architect) who built the unique house as his private residence using only the finest materials and craftsmanship.
Farnley Tower was purchased in 1998 as a dilapidated shell, but was extensively renovated under the owners' personal supervision in order to incorporate all the intricate detail of the Victorian era whilst providing all the facilities expected of a Modern City Centre Hotel.
Opening in 2007, The Gourmet Spot at Farnley Tower has carved out a reputation for providing its customers with an experience so special that it has created a buzz across the region. Recognition and awards have flooded in with the most prestigious coming from industry guru's at Restaurant Magazine which awarded Gourmet Spot the "Best Dessert in Britain" prize. The restaurant is Michelin recommended and achieved the highest quality assured award for local produce in Taste Durham Scheme. Specialising in innovative and imaginative cuisine, the restaurant's tasting menus are very popular. Being linked to the Hotel means there are extensive facilities for groups, businesses, holding discreet recruitment, staff training or team building events. It is also available to small groups for weddings, christenings and other occasions.
