A rich tradition
Farnley Tower was built in 1870 for a Mr.S. Forstor (a prominent local architect) who built the unique house as his private residence using only the finest materials and craftsmanship.
Over the past 130 years Farnley Tower has been used as a doctor's surgery, a nursing home, and a residential care home.
Farnley Tower was purchased in 1998 as a dilapidated shell, but has now been extensively renovated under the owners' personal supervision in order to incorporate all the intricate detail of the Victorian era whilst providing all the facilities expected of a modern city centre guest house / hotel.
Farnley Tower is sited in an elevated position providing stunning views over Durham Cathedral and Castle, as well as the surrounding Durham countryside. It also has its own car park and gardens.
Although situated in a quiet residential area it is only a short walk from the city centre with its numerous shops and restaurants.
If you are travelling or working, Farnley Tower provides a quiet haven in which to relax.
Our aim is to cater for your individual needs.
